Dead souls don't sing

11th book in Department Q:

CARL MØRCK is done with the police. He has left Department Q and is trying to settle into life as a writer when he comes into possession of a disturbing audio recording. Four years earlier, an elderly woman was attempted murdered by her husband, who subsequently took his own life. The case has been declared solved, but the audio file reveals that the couple were not alone when the crime took place.

Carl seeks out his old friends in Department Q, ROSE KNUDSEN and HAFEZ EL-ASSAD, who are struggling to keep their spirits up in the basement of the Police Station after his exit. The clearance rate is declining, and the mood doesn't get any better when the homicide chief introduces a new colleague, the mysterious Danish-French policewoman, HELENA HENRY. Rose is convinced that Helena is hiding something from them and begins her own investigation into the woman, who apparently has no past.

At Carl's urging, Department Q takes on the case of the elderly couple. A forgotten and heartbreaking incident from the past slowly reveals itself to them, and when Assad and Helena walk into a vengeful man's deadly trap, they must ask themselves: Who are the real victims in this case - and who are the perpetrators?

DEAD SOULS DON'T SING is an intense and gripping crime thriller about broken dreams, innocence, cruelty and betrayal – and about how long you can hold a person accountable for their choices.
