Fourth book in Department Q:
Abuse, coercion and betrayal were commonplace on the small island to which Danish women were deported and left to the whims of their caretakers.
When Rita Nielsen first set foot on the island, no one could have known that she would become involved in a drama that, 55 years later, would lead to Department Q's most complicated case to date.
An assault in Vesterbro prompts Carl Mørck's assistant Rose to take a closer look at the shelved police report about a prostitute's disappearance without a trace. Rose pressures Carl and Assad to reopen the case, and they soon realize that it is just a small part of something bigger, about abuse of the most egregious kind. Abuse that originated more than half a century ago, but which apparently still occurs.
The investigation is taking its toll on Carl, not least because Assad's involvement in the case becomes life-threatening. And just when Carl thinks he knows how things are connected, a new and cold-blooded player enters the fray.
Journal 64 is the fourth volume in Jussi Adler-Olsen's popular series about Department Q. The book was honored with the Golden Laurel Award in 2011.
